Abstract

Background

Hyperlipidemia is one of the most important modifiable cardiovascular risk factors and is characterized by elevated plasma cholesterol, triglycerides, or both. Persistent dyslipidemia contributes to atherosclerosis, coronary artery disease, cerebrovascular disease, and metabolic syndrome. Hypertriglyceridemia, in particular, has emerged as an independent risk factor for cardiovascular disease and pancreatitis. Lifestyle modification and statins remain the cornerstone of conventional management; however, individualized homoeopathy aims to address constitutional susceptibility while complementing dietary and lifestyle interventions.

Case Presentation

A 36-year-old male presented with incidentally detected hyperlipidemia during routine health screening. Laboratory investigations demonstrated borderline hypercholesterolemia (206 mg/dL) with marked hypertriglyceridemia (339 mg/dL). The patient was a known case of hypertension on antihypertensive medication and had a positive family history of dyslipidemia. He led a sedentary lifestyle but maintained approximately 6000 steps daily. Constitutional evaluation revealed a disciplined, punctual, introverted, less-talkative yet friendly individual with lack of confidence, craving for salty and sweet foods, perspiration over palms and soles, and occasional acidity. Based on individualized constitutional analysis, Natrum muriaticum was prescribed as the constitutional remedy, Cholesterinum as the acute remedy, and Calcarea fluorica as an intercurrent remedy.

Outcome

Following constitutional treatment with dietary counselling and lifestyle advice, serum triglycerides reduced from 339 mg/dL to 189 mg/dL (44.2% reduction), total cholesterol decreased from 206 mg/dL to 195 mg/dL, VLDL normalized, and gastric symptoms improved while blood pressure remained controlled.

Conclusion

This case demonstrates objective biochemical improvement in hyperlipidemia associated with individualized constitutional homoeopathic treatment integrated with lifestyle modification.
